Back To My Roots
Happy U.S. Thanksgiving, everybody! After a long semester of working with adorable preschoolers and learning all kinds of wonderful things in the field of Family Science, it's that time of year again--time to break out the old hot chocolate recipe, settle down at the computer in my favorite plaid ruana cloak (yes, I have a new ruana) with some vibey music, and get down to telling stories. True, the hot chocolate comes in an insulated tumbler now instead of a ceramic mug, but the fact remains that sometimes when Winter is on her way, you just have to lean into the cozy vibes.
To be honest, this is mostly a post to assure you all that I am still alive; after all, I haven't posted anything whatsoever since August, before my college classes kicked up again. It's been a bit of a wild semester, with many adventures (some that wouldn't be wise for me to discuss online, since they would reveal too much about where I work--and that's bad for keeping kids' identities confidential. I've been learning all about this stuff in my ethics class; it's very important).
Among other things, this has been a semester of learning how to deal with bigger workloads than I've ever had before, especially given that I now know that I'm autistic and have ADHD. Between working 24 hours a week and doing online college classes full-time, joining two D&D groups, and getting far too involved in my Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous playthrough, it's been a busy few months.
Somehow, I've still managed to make time to practice my tin whistle, and I may now be taking up the recorder as well; a couple days ago my dad handed one to me for some reason and said, "the baby ate it so you'll want to wash it off" and now it's waiting on my desk for me to be brave enough to look up tabs. I also went to FanX with a friend, and that was very fun indeed; I came home with mostly 3D printed dragons and a stuffed leopard, because I am a strange individual and the types of things that interest me at comic cons, writing symposiums, renaissance faires, and farmers' markets are pretty consistent across the board. I'm a critter girlie, through and through.
For up and coming adventures, I'm currently trying to save money for a new computer (or computer-adjacent device; the new Steam Machine coming out in a few months has piqued my interest and I'm hoping it's actually decent) so I can start streaming the games I play. I don't really know how long it'll take, but it's something I've been thinking about doing for almost two years now and at long last I'm getting close to being able to get that particular... dream? Hobby? Whatever it is... going. After all, if I'm going to spend hours and hours each week playing my favorite cRPGs, I may as well make an attempt to monetize it, and I have it on good authority from my brother-in-law that watching me play video games is entertaining because I both ramble a lot and am paranoid in every game I play (he tried to introduce me to one of the Zelda games about a month ago, and he was having a grand time watching me be suspicious of literally everything, including Zelda herself).
Hopefully going forward I'll also be able to take a little more time for the blog, even if it is just me rambling about the mundane events of my life. I have missed my little corner of the Internet and tossing my quirky self out into the aether for anyone who cares to read.
And, if you're new here, welcome to the fireside. Feel free to stick around a while; personally, I think I've had some pretty good things to say over the last couple years, even if I have gradually grown less and less consistent about keeping y'all updated. If you're interested in reading more of my posts but don't know exactly where to start, here's a list of my favorites:
Thanks for reading! I hope I see you again soon!
