Meet The Author

    If you're looking at this page, you probably want to know something about me. So here are three to get you started, and then the little biography I'm going to put at the back of my books. Anything you might want to know beyond that, you'll probably learn by sticking around. :)
1. I am a full-on, hardcore Christian.
2. I love writing stories about interesting, imaginary people.
3. I love my hats, my boots, and my homemade hot chocolate!

           


About the Author:
    Elia Beck is an avid reader, writer, Irish dancer, and shameless chatterbox based in Utah Valley. She has a deep love for the fantasy genre, medieval weaponry, and talking to inanimate objects like they're real people. When she isn't reading, writing, or dancing, she's practicing her pipe-organ and Irish pennywhistle skills, surviving college classes, and/or having the time of her life at her day-job at Thanksgiving Point.
    Elia's motto, for writing and for life, is found in 1st Corinthians 10:31: 'Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.'

#2: This is me again, preparing for an Irish dance performance. Isn't my dress sparkly? :D Seriously, though, I swore I'd never be into girly stuff, but Irish dance has sort of changed my perspective.

    In my English 2010 class this semester, my professor has been talking a bit about perspectives, and about how, when writing any sort of research paper, it's really important to look at as many perspectives as you can and try to understand them. Whether they support your position or not, it's always good to see an issue from as many sides as possible so as to get an understanding with the proper depth.     And then, of course, he drew a little diagram to illustrate his point. Here's the basic gist:     Ta-da! Two sides of an issue, and everybody falls somewhere along the scale. Seems reasonable, right? Hot Chocolate & Saying Hello!

 It's only fitting if my very first blog post includes my home-made hot chocolate recipe. This is Hats, Boots, & Chocolate, after all. So here's the recipe, and then we'll see if I've got anything more to say.  For 8 ounces of water, mix 1/32 tsp of stevia extract, 2 tsp of cacao powder, 1/4 tsp of lecithin, 2 tsp of coconut water powder, and 2 tsp of coconut oil at the bottom of your cup. Add the hot water, stir it up, and drink.  So where did this recipe come from?  Well, I work at Thanksgiving Point. And this year, I volunteered to help out at Luminaria--which is essentially a long Christmas-time walk through the Ashton Gardens, surrounded by amazing Christmas lights and decorations, with a side of real, live reindeer. Since I'm working at Luminaria, I have been offered as much free hot chocolate and treats as I want. Three-Act Narrative Structure

     Welcome back!     Today, I'm going to discuss a common narrative structure mentioned in Mr. Ingermanson's blog post about his snowflake plotting method . And yes, I'm linking it again, because the information on his blog is pretty cool stuff.     The reason for this blog post is because I realized, while working on Step 2 of Mr. Ingermanson's snowflake method, that I couldn't visualize where things were going to be in my story.
